Holiday doings

I'm off all this week with Kathryn. We've been having a lovely time, meeting up with people and having picnics. Today, we went to the V&A museum. It is one of my favourite museums, even if the fashion gallery is closed for restoration.

We had our lunch in the garden in the centre of the museum. It was lovely and sunny, and the little pond (which is just out of shot on this picture) was full of children running in and out.

The building itself is also stunning, and throughout the galleries they had people repairing the mosaic flooring as well as having galleries closed for restoration.

They do quite a lot of kids activities. These activities are not just summer holiday things, although they're only available during the weekend in term time.

We took an activity backpack, The Emperor's Party, and took it to the South Asia gallery. The first task was to look at the hangings, and using them as inspiration, to design our own one for the walls for the party we were going to hold for the Emperor.

Here's Kathryn, cutting out some additional decoration to the printed sheet from this activity.

We didn't complete all the tasks in the hour we had the backpack, but that is because we had our lunch in that time as well. Next time, we'll eat first, or last, as you only have an hour to do all the activities in that backpack. And yes, there will most definitely be a next time.

Possibly even tomorrow! If you want to see pics from the V&A let me know before tomorrow and I'll try and get some.

Friday we will be going to the Steam Museum, to see the Steampunk exhibition before it closes. Saturday Kathryn's going away with my parents.

Oh, oh, big news. I have a new job. I have a conveyancing legal secretary job. I'm so very very pleased:) It's maternity cover, so there is a large possibility the job will only last for a year, but. It's a job in a sector of an industry I've been trying to get back into since last June. I start mid September, and intend to stop doing my freelance evening work (for the most part anyhow) at the same time. I don't think I can do a full on full time job and a full on evening job too.

So, that's all the news with me. What's new with you?

Congratulations on the new job. I'm busy with a journal publication, prep for a class I'll be teaching in the fall and trying to figure out when to take a bit of time off - times running out on that last one since I need to take it before classes start on the 12th of September...

Not much is new. The summer is slipping away so quickly. I like the idea of activity backpacks at the museum for the kids. What a good way to get them interested in the artwork and to spur them onto creative works of their own.
