Big Skirt!

So, a quick update on how I'm getting on with my big skirt.

It has a steek. OK, it's not called a steek, because it's sewing, but it involves cutting into a panel of fabric, after sewing a line of stitches each side of the cut line. That looks like a steek to me.

It's just as scary on fabric as it is on knitting.

I've had to sew some poppers inside the facing that got sewn on here, otherwise it just gapes open.

Eyelets! Unfortunately I broke my eyelet inserting vario pliers doing this. Not entirely sure how, but the jaws broke. Have got a new one now, with an eyelet inserting tool so I can avoid breaking it again.

My friend took this pic for me, showing how long it is, unhemmed. I'm 5' 6" or so. I don't normally shorten skirts. Maybe I should have done so. Although Bella the cat likes it rather a lot. Oh, and I believe I may have mentioned my waistcoat love elsewhere.

I'm hand sewing the hem. It's taking forever, but then I've also got some viral crap which is making me exhausted and feel generally like death warmed over. Interesting fact: I've sewn a hook and eye at the back to lift up the trailing train I've created (by giving it a smaller hem at the back), which creates a bustle type back. Looks very nice:)

Just need to finish sewing the hem, and make the bodice. Which is black with red lurex pinstripes. It's officially suiting. Not sure I'd trust anyone who wore it without irony though. Might even finish in time.

I love it! I was just thinking yesterday that I wanted a costume this year but I'll probably be on jury duty and I think they might frown on that sort of thing. I'll just wear my shirt that says Boo. (and I'll leave the headband with the little ghosts sticking up home)
